First week of school under the belt!

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:22 pm by Mel

Well, Ajax’s first week of kindergarten is done and he did wonderful!  He rode the bus every day and went to the after school program till 5 when Dave and I could get him after work.  He (so far) loves his class and his teacher.  His favorite thing is recess and his Spanish lessons.  It is, however, very difficult to get him to talk about his day.  I guess this is what it’s like being a parent.  We sit there at dinner and try to think of creative ways to get him to talk about what he did, how he felt, etc. But goodness it’s like pulling teeth!

Noomi on the other hand will talk your ear off.  The only problem is that most of time she simply mimics your words back at you.  She is quite the talker and will go on and on!  She has also been sitting on the potty more and more and we’ve now worked that into her nighttime routine before she gets a bath. She is now very excited for her nighttime poo in the potty (I can’t believe I’m writing this, I hope this doesn’t embarrass her too much when she’s older).

Dave has also been a champ and has taken the kids for several bike rides (2 or 3 a day). Ajax loves his bike and Noomi loves her little bike trailer.  My bike has two flat tires and apparently it needs a special attachment to fill them up.

Here are a few pictures from this summer.  The first few are from when we went to the Thursday night concert series in town (Elvis), and then some of the pool.  And of course some cooking.  We made homemade pickles from the garden and the kids and I also made Monkey Bread.

MAX

Posted in Family news/Updates, Uncategorized at 10:00 pm by Mel

Today was a very sad day in our home.  It was time and we had to put Max down.   Considering the vet put Max on doggie hospice care over a year ago, no one thought he’d make it this long.   As we adopted Max we were never 100% sure of his age, but from what we pieced together from the old owner it seemed he was about 13 years old.   Dave and I had him since 2003, he was a member of our family and will be missed dearly.

Hard worker

Just thought I’d show you proof of what a happy little guy we have in the morning.  When Dave and I are dragging our feet around the house getting ready for work, Ajax is sitting in his bouncy chair laughing and talking it up.

Laundry and Rain

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:07 pm by Mel

I had the day off from work today so Ajax and I hung out at home.  It was the perfect day for being home.  It was cold and overcast outside and rained pretty much all day. . . I had planned on going grocery shopping, but we never left the house.   Grandpa Rod and Grandma Dara sent home some veggies from their garden, so I took the day to turn some of it into baby food as Ajax loves squash.   I’m also proud to say that I did laundry and clipped coupons (I even organized them in a little binder, but the trick will be for me to actually remember and use them at the store); Watch out Martha!   Overall, Ajax and I had a great day.  He seems to be quite the pro now at rolling from his tummy to his back, and sits up as long as he wants to.  He still thinks its funny to just sort of fall back when he’s done sitting up and can’t figure out why we keep propping him back up.

I'm such a mom. I'm just a sucker for these cute little hoodies with bear ears... he has two.

This is normally a Dad game, but I thought why can't Moms give laundry basket rides too? Ajax didn't seem to mind, but Max was a little annoyed.

Sinks and Church

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:00 pm by Mel

This weekend we headed up north to Mikado to visit Dave’s family.  We got there around 10:30 pm on Friday (Ajax slept the whole way up) and put the little guy right to bed and he was out all night long.   He actually slept better up north than he has been at home… go figure?   We also brought Max up so that he would have the opportunity to run around in the woods.  Unfortunately, I think this will be his last trip up north as he’s not really doing so well.   On Saturday we did the rounds up north and visited with Dave’s grandma Indish and aunts/uncles/cousin.   On Sunday my mother in law, Dara, and Dave’s grandma Dingeldein took Ajax to Church, while Dave and I stayed home and bummed around.  They said he did very good and only fell asleep once!  Not bad for his first time in church.  We had a great time seeing everyone.

Zombie Walk

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:14 pm by Mel

I know- two posts, one night, crazy.  But we’ll be out of town this weekend, so thought I’d hit ya with as much Indish family fun as you could handle.   As I’m sure most of you know Mr. Dave is obsessed with zombies and yes, I have an unnatural fear of the undead.  That being said, last year my husband dragged me to a Zombie walk in Ferndale.  I invited friends, who ever so politely declined the invite for more sophisticated endeavors.  Well, it’s almost that time again for this years walk and Dave is super pumped to bring Ajax.  We may even dress him up as a baby zombie… in his stroller.

Girls

This morning I dropped Ajax off at Dave’s cousins house.  His cousin’s wife usually watches Ajax once a week, however, this week and next she has him for two days.    Anywho, they have two little girls and then she also babysits her niece.  Ajax is the only little dude in a house full of girls.  As soon as I brought him in the house all three girls descended on him to get a closer look.  Kristy said he’s now getting used to having the girls hover over him (as they are “helping” watch him, lol).  I bet he’s getting used to the attention- welcome to the rest of your life kiddo.

Shirts and Eating

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:07 pm by Mel

Today I gave up on a bib as the kid insists on trying to pull them off during meal time.

I’ve also been looking at getting a convertible car seat for Ajax as he has about outgrown his infant car seat.   For some reason I thought babies were in these infant car seats for like a year or something.

Dave is just getting over bronchitis, so we’re keeping a close eye on Ajax to be sure he doesn’t come down with anything.   So far so good.   We still plan on heading up north this weekend, so long as Dave is up for it (because my role on that 4 hr drive is to keep Ajax happy and then fall asleep).

Babysitting

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:03 pm by Mel

My aunt Terri is currently in England visiting my cousin and her family, so other friends and family members have been babysitting for us.  On Monday a family friend, Bev, babysat and today my dad was over.  Good times were had all around and we so appreciate the help!   Tonight Ajax rolled over twice, stomach to back, and seemed quite pleased with himself.  We tried going for a third time, but he refused.   This is the first time he has rolled over in almost two months.

My friend Heather is the coupon guru and after much pressuring she finally started a blog to tell people like me how to save money (http://www.spectacularsavings.blogspot.com/).  Well I did exactly what she told me and walked out of Rite Aid with- Huggies mega pack of diapers ($17.99), Huggies baby wipes ($3.49), and face wash ($5.49).  After using my coupons, I only paid $14.74, out of pocket!  I felt like such a winner.

Falls almost here

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:17 pm by Mel

It seems I am perpetually going through Ajax’s clothes.   Per usual Michigan weather we’ve been having days in the 80s followed by days in the high 60s, needless to say all Michiganders have sinus headaches.  I started pulling out 9-12 month stuff for the kid, as he certainly needs warmer clothes now.

This weekend we went out to my parents house to visit.  My mom, sister, Ajax, and I went shopping (where the kid had a complete meltdown).  The goal was to get my mom some suits and clothes for work, but the only people who ended up with stuff was Ajax and one shirt for my sister.   As neither Dave, nor my dad, wanted anything to do with the mall, they went fishing.   Good times!   Next weekend we’re headed up north to visit Dave’s family in Mikado.  This is a great time of year to head up north as all the leaves are starting to change.
